What are the health benefits of Grapes

Grapes are available in many colors and forms. The colors include red grapes, green grapes, purple grapes & the forms include seedless grapes, grape jelly, etc. Grapes are cultivated in most part of the World. More than 70 Million tons of grape is cultivated each year to produce more than 7 trillion gallons of wine. Grapes are popularly known as finger food.

Besides using grapes for wine production, it also have numerous health benefits.  It prevents  stomach related disease like constipation, heart related diseases like high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases and body related diseases like cancer.

Some facts about Grapes:

  • Grapes contain nutrients helpful in fighting cancer, diseases related to eye, heart and other health problems.
  • Grapes contain resveratrol which is the main nutrient that provide many health advantage.
  • Grapes contain high amount of fiber, potassium and different type of vitamins as well as minerals.
  • If you are diabetic, Grapes can be included in your daily diet plan.

Benefits of Grapes:

  • Prevention and treatment of Cancer: Grapes contain polyphenols which have antioxidant property. They are good for treating inflammation. Resveratrol is present in the skin of grapes which helps in slowing the build-up of tumors responsible for cancer. Resveratrol present in grapes is also present in red wine, but wine should be drank in moderate quantity as drinking high quantity of  wine actually increases the risk of cancer. As per studies, moderate wine quantity per day for women is 1 drink and that for men is 2 drinks. Besides resveratrol, grapes also contain flavonoid quercetin which prevents cancer expansion.
  • Better for Heart: As Grapes contain resveratrol and flavonoid quercetin, both act as boosters in reducing the damage originated from LDL Cholesterol. Resveratrol is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory properties which bring down the exposure to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). It does not let platelet  growth and decreases blood presssure. Grapes are also rich in fiber & potassium which are good for heart. As per studies, high intake of potassium outsets the effect of sodium and improve the blood pressure and heart health. High potassium is also good for building muscle mass and maintaining mineral density in bones.
  • Good for Stomach: Grapes are rich in fiber and water content. It keeps you hydrated. It also minimizes the probability of constipation by regulating bowel movements.
  • Relieves Allergy:  As Grapes contain flavonoid quercetin, it helps in easing allergies and its effects like running nose, watery eyes, etc.
  • Helpful in Diabetes: Grapes can be taken in the diet plan provided that the carbohydrate content is counted in the meal. Recent study has proved that people who eat grapes have 7% lower chances to develop Diabetes when compared with people who do not eat grapes.  Resveratrol found in grapes protect you from diabetic neuropathy.
  • Good for Eyes: Other antioxidants present in grapes are lutein and zeaxanthin. This antioxidants are useful in maintaining eye health. They flush out the free radicals also known as unstable molecules which are responsible for damage to the eye retina. Resveratrol protect the eyes from diseases like glaucoma and cataract as we age.
  • Fight Acne: Resveratrol when combined with benzoyl peroxide can treat acne.
Besides above health benefits of grapes, grapes are known in boosting human immune system and maintaining blood sugar level. It is also known to reduce risk of Alzheimer’s disease& Osteoarthritis.
